The answer to that question would be yes! So many students’ blog, use IM, chat room and texting. I believe that it is important to stay current with trends and technology in order to understand the students you will be teaching. I am not saying over do it! Keep a level of respect established but be able to relate with your students. I will be teaching Language Arts and this is a subject that many students’ even adults frown upon. They instantly think extensive writing and reading. I am so excited to be that teacher that can practically engage any student who has a great distaste for Language Arts. I think blogging is one of the ways to engage the students into the content. For Example, the first day of class I would assign the students homework. They will create a blog account. They would be able to use just about any name as long as it is appropriate for class. I would just have them summit their blog names to me so I can know who receive credit. Students will also be able to my critics for different assignment. Student feedback is important and can help you improve your teaching strategies. Be comfortable with taking criticism. It will help you master your teaching strategies. I would definitely give example of the type of blogs I will expect. I would make it clear that since this is a Language Arts class no text lingo, slang, profanity, or any other inappropriate term will not be tolerated. After the rules are established, they will have free reign on how to design their blog page. I may also use the blog page for writing prompts and for daily bellwork points. Students will be able to give ideas for the topic or resource to be incorporate in the classroom for blogging. As we all know or are, learning students tend to know more about the new trend of technology. Many lesson plans can include blogging to help spice up the content, but I will not give away all my ideas…So use blogging to help engage your students they will appreciate you for it.
